Flower

I’m slowly warming up to buy digital content. Earlier this year I purchased Flower for PlayStation 3. A truly wonderful ‘videogame’ by thatgamecompany that has won several awards. So what is Flower and what makes it so attractive?

Flower is not a traditional ‘game’. Through simple gameplay and a lush game environment the gamer / user gets a totally different experience. You control a little petal with the PlayStation’s SIXAXIS controller. Moving it left, right, up and down your petal travels through the vast planes touching flower buds and making those flowers blossom, taking a few petals with you to accompany you on your journey. But that’s not all, when touching those flowers you make the environment greener and greener. Ultimately ending in an explosion of petals & greeniness.

Flower

The graphics are just amazing. At first I was so blown away by the lovely surroundings I forgot I was controlling the petal with my SIXAXIS controller. Even though it’s not a traditional game and has no highscore ranking whatsoever, after finishing a level you do feel that content feeling of accomplisment. No ranking overview can beat the explosion of petal flowers and the burst of green over a vast green landscape. Flower proves (again, there are enough other titles that support this aswell) PlayStation 3 is not just a console with big bad ass titles such as Killzone 2, but is also a platform for artistic games. In the end Flower is hard to describe without using superlatives and maybe cliché comments as “in one word amazing”. Flower is not something one should read about, but should simply experience.

Flower

You can view Flower as a simple game without needing to think too much. Others call the gameplay meditative and relaxing. Playing Flower sure seems relaxing with the lovely orchestral soundtrack playing on the background. Bringing ‘greeniness’ back to the world sure makes you think of our own environment. To be honest I suddenly felt the urge to go out and buy some flowers to liven up my house as well…

Flower is available through the PlayStation Store for ONLY € 7,99 ! Go to the PlayStation Store for more information. Want to learn more about Flower and view some actual footage? Check out the review by GameTrailers.com added below.

The game looks awesome. Kinda too bad the PS3 doesn’t come with the game ;P

Hahaha :P unfortunately it doesn’t come with the PlayStation 3, but the price of the console has seriously dropped. Maybe an idea for a nice Christmas present?

My friend has this game and I watched him play, it’s so pretty :D Kind of pointless when you really think about it, but the beautiful graphics makes this game worth it.

I don’t have a ps3, but I’ve also JUST started getting into digital content, for my iPhone. I’ve been really pleasantly surprised by a couple games I’ve played on the iPhone (especially Zenonia), and after spending over 30 hours on the aforementioned game, I no longer think digital content is inferior. ;)

I must say having an iPhone really helped with getting more familiar with buying digital content. I’m not sure if I ever thought digital content as being inferior … I just didn’t feel comfortable buying it. At first I really didn’t like buying digital content, because I just love packaging :P but after downloading loads of apps & podcasts for my iPhone … maybe I’ll get more downloadable content for my PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 :D
