Movie Mix 001

Movie Mix 001

From time to time I will do a movie mix which is actually a quickie review for at least 3 movies I’ve seen recently. Most of the movies I review in a ‘movie mix’ have already been released on DVD or are aired on television. I will still do indepth single movie reviews for movies I’ve seen in the cinema or the ones I really really really like a lot e.g. the one I did for Avatar (2009).

I decided to rent The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Star Trek (2009) and Transformers 2: Revenge of The Fallen. I thought about seeing these movies in the cinema, but in the end I never did.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Even though ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ (2009) isn’t an action flick like the other two movies I got my hands on, it is definitely my favorite out of the three. The story is beautiful and sad at the same time. The cast did a great job and performed well. Even though it stars Brad Pitt, it didn’t feel like I was watching ‘Brad Pitt’ all the time. I had that feeling when I watched Troy (2004). I’m already a big fan of Cate Blanchett. I also think Taraji P. Henson who portrayed Queenie did an amazing job. In the end the movie truly suprised me. It wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be, still it was a magical experience to watch the movie.

Star Trek

I must be honest, I had very big doubts about ‘Star Trek’ (2009). Even though I’ve never seen the original Star Trek series I am a HUGE fan of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ and of course ‘Star Trek: Voyager’. I didn’t really watch ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’. Even though I do not see myself as a Trekkie with extensive knowledge, I do know about some of the lore. The movie truly suprised me and I really enjoyed watching it. It has some decent character build up and I’m interested in watching the next installment now that the crew is somewhat complete. I’m also a little sad I didn’t catch this movie in the cinema.

Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen

I must say I kinda liked the first ‘Transformers‘ (2007) movie, even though I watched it with German dubs. ‘Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen’ (2009) however, was a very big let down. Even though it has some great action packed scenes in it, the wacky tin can sound effects totally destroy the credibility. No, it wasn’t my soundsystem that screwed up the sound. The acting was truly terrible! The robots were OK (don’t count the twins) but the humans… *ugh* If you do like action without thinking you could enjoy this movie. In the end it’s not really worth seeing.

I absolutely LOVE the new Star Trek film. I saw it in theaters and I was a little hesitant to see it as I know nothing about the Star Trek world, but the movie was absolutely fantastic and blew me away.

Confession: I was hooked on Star Trek: Next Generation. I’m going to have to rent the movie (since BF didn’t want to see it at the movies with me.)
