From time to time I will do a movie mix which is actually a quickie review for at least 3 movies I’ve seen recently. Most of the movies I review in a ‘movie mix’ have already been released on DVD or are aired on television. I will still do indepth single movie reviews for movies I’ve seen in the cinema or the ones I really really really like a lot e.g. the one I did for Inception (2010).
I decided to rent Clash of the Titans (2010), Daybreakers (2009) and Shutter Island (2010) on DVD. I wanted to see all three movies in the cinema, but unfortunately I didn’t have the time to go see them.
Clash of the Titans
After watching the trailer of ‘Clash of the Titans’ (2010) I thought the movie would be an epic one. I’m sure it was definitely very enjoyable in the cinema or better yet on an IMAX screen. The movie has some great effects and the action (e.g. battle with the giant scorpions) was a thrill to watch. Unfortunately the story was really really bad. The writers didn’t even bother to check Greek mythology and just mix up some elements *sighs* It shouldn’t be very difficult to get some facts right. ‘Clash of the Titans’ is a perfect movie if you don’t want to think too much and just want to watch a fast & easy action movie.
Daybreakers
‘Daybreakers’ (2009) is definitely my favorite movie from this movie mix. I’m a big sucker for vampire movies – er, no … I don’t mean those where vampires have shiny skin, I mean the ones where they burn when touched by sunlight :P I love the somewhat darker themed ones e.g. Blade (1998) and 30 Days of Night (2007). I really enjoyed ‘Daybreakers’ a lot, not just because it’s a great vampire movie but also because it makes us think of something that humanity will face sooner or later. What will we do when there aren’t enough sources anymore to feed the people on this planet? This movie is definitely one to watch!
Shutter Island (2010)
‘Shutter Island’ (2010) is definitely a great movie, but it’s not for the ‘popcorn movie fan’. This story has a very good build up, but it does challenge the watcher to stick with it and follow the story until the end unfolds the truth. I love the way ‘Shutter Island’ challenges the viewer. I think it’s a strong psychological thriller with a powerful lead played by Leonardo DiCaprio. After watching Inception (2010) I really wanted to see more material of DiCaprio, he has been delivering some great performances and I’m looking forward to see more of him. ‘Shutter Island’ is definitely one to watch if you like to be challenged and have the stamina to keep it up.
