The Deeproads

After collecting coin from doing various jobs in and around Kirkwall, Ciara can finally invest the 50 sovereigns and buy herself into the ‘Deeproad Expedition’. Bartrand can’t believe Ciara was able to come up with all the money and even get her hands on maps of The Deeproads. Now that all the funds are in, they can start exploring and hopefully return as rich men and women!

Unfortunately the expedition doesn’t come very far. After a few days the group find their way blocked, it takes a while for Bartrand’s workers to clear the debris. He asks Ciara if she can check the side passages for a different route, all the other men are too scared to venture too deep into The Deeproads in case of running into Darkspawn. Ciara and her friends quickly find a way around the obstruction and immediately hit the jackpot! They have found a Thaig that seems to be even older and more valuable than in their wildest dreams.

Ciara is eager to explore the Ancient Thaig, but Varric is a bit more reluctant. Not knowing what bothers her friend, Ciara decides to push on. As they go deeper in the Thaig they stumble upon a treasure room. On the altar there’s an idol made of – what it seems – pure lyrium ! Anders warns the group that the item possesses powerful magic and he can’t say it’s all good magic.

Bartrand has followed Ciara and her friends to the treasure room and is very pleased to hear about their find. The location of the Ancient Thaig and the idol made of pure lyrium is worth thousands and thousands of cold coins. Ciara tosses the idol over to Bartrand, but as the group is still talking enthusiastically about their find – where is Bartrand going?

Bartrand has sneaked off and locks the door of the treasure room behind him. He doesn’t want to share the treasure with Ciara nor with his own brother Varric. Ciara and her friends are locked in. There is no way back, so the only way to go is forward. Fortunately the treasure room seems to have another entry point. The only thing Ciara can do is lead the group through the other entrance, hopefully finding a way out of the Thaig and out of The Deeproads safely.
As they go deeper and deeper into The Deeproads, the path leads them to an open spot with a pile of rocks. Ciara and Varric don’t have a good feeling about it…

The pile of rocks form into a Rock Wraith a creature that only appears in ancient dwarven tales! The group struggles to defeat the creature and as they push onwards it seems they have found a way out! Varric recognizes the surroundings it should not take longer than a week before they can finally leave The Deeproads behind them.

Ciara is pleased they’ve found a way out even if they still have to walk a couple of days. As they’re ready to make camp, Bethany says she’s not feeling well. Varric jokes it must have been the mushrooms they have been eating, but as Bethany falls to the ground they know it’s much more serious.

Ciara is shocked to find out The Blight has afflicted Bethany during their stay in The Deeproads! She immediately thinks of Wesley during their escape from Lothering. Back then they couldn’t save him. Ciara asks if there is no other option than to see Bethany die. Anders tells her there is only one way to save her, Bethany must become a Grey Warden. With the maps he gave to Ciara he can track down the Grey Wardens and ask them for help. Ciara does not want to see her sister die and agrees this is their only option.

Anders leads the group to the Grey Wardens. Since Anders left the order they are surprised to see him. Anders asks Stroud for his help saving Bethany. Stroud tells him the Wardens are not a charity and not everybody will survive becoming a Grey Warden. Anders is able to convince Stround Bethany is a strong girl and will be a worthy Grey Warden. Stroud finally agrees to help Bethany, but she will have to come with them immediately.

Unsure if they will ever see eachother again the two sisters say goodbye to eachother. Ciara feels miserable, she couldn’t save Carter now she will also lose Bethany. Even if Bethany survives becoming a Grey Warden this also means they can never see eachother again. Is this what they worked so hard for all this time? What will happen next?
